A charming oil on canvas depicting a Norfolk cottage next to a country lane in a wooded landscape. Signed with monogram and dated 1874, with named artist's plaque to frame. Also with gallery label verso.
I n fine condition and h oused in an good period giltwood frame , ready to hang. Approximate image dimensions are: 12'' x 8'' (30cm x 20cm).From a Norfolk gentleman's private collection. John Berney Ladbrooke was born in Norwich in 1803 being the third son of the artist Robert Ladrooke. He was apprenticed to John Crome , the great landscape artist, whose influence is apparent in Ladbrooke's works. Ladbrooke specialised in landscape of Norfolk and the surrounding area. He became a significant member of The Norwich School of artists and exhibited widely including at the Royal Academy, the British Institute and at the Norwich Society of Artists.
