Antique 19th Century OIL PAINTING Bird Hunting Retriever / Spaniel Dog Woodcock
Here is a wonderful antique oil painting of a Spaniel / Retriever clutching a. It is an original oil painting, done on a F. It appears that the painting has been cut from a larger painting to fit the frame, which measures 18-1/2" x 14-1/2". The painting itself measures 12" x 16". The painting of the retriever has a skillful expression, reminiscent of a Sir Edwin Landseer painting, such as Landseer's. It is possible that this piece is by Sir Edwin Landseer. The era of the Devoe Board (mid 19th Century) fits, and the pensive sadness of the Woodcock, and perfectly covetous rendition of the Retriever's expression, both suggest that this piece was done by a master painter of animals.
Condition: Overall Fine - with no major damage to the piece. There are some small areas of touch up - all on the lower left of the painting. Please see the pictures - It is a wonderful piece, and will make an excellent addition to your collection.
