Antique Carlton T Chapman Full Sail by Moonlight Oil on Canvas Painting Framed. Up for sale today is this Antique Carlton T Chapman Full Sail by Moonlight Oil on Canvas Painting. This is a very nice antique oil on canvas by Carlton Chapman circa 1900's.
The painting is framed in what looks to be the original wood and plaster deep frame. SOme of the ornamental plaster has chipped off but it still displays well.
The painting is in good over all condition with normal crackling from age. The reverse of the canvas does show two old wax repairs to the canvas. I can make all the words out. The front of the canvas also has "After De Haas" with another word that I cant make out. The "De Haas" in my best guess would be Mauritz de Haas who painted Hudson River Under Moonlight who also painted in New York as did Mr Chapman.Painting measures 22" x 25" x 3.5" including frame and 17" x 14 Stretcher. Painting could use a good cleaning but in as is condition it still has nice antique eye appeal. Born in New London, OH on Sept.
18, 1860, Carlton Chapman studied in New York City at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League, and in Paris at Académie Julian. He was a resident of Los Angeles in 1912-18.
He died in New York City on Feb. Member: National Academy and California Art Club.
