An American Impressionist painting on board depicting a harbor scene. Signed and dated 24 (1924) bottom right. The painting is made all the more interesting by its depiction of a group of painters along the dock at upper left, practicing their craft.
Likely a view of Massachussetts. Measures 19" x 22" framed, 12" x 15" sight.
Condition is Good, there is some craquelure to the paint, and spots of soiling. One 1/4 area of paint split at center right. Overall somewhat dirty, would benefit from a cleaning. John Rettig was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1855. Active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, he studied and painted throughout the United States and Europe, working for a time as a modeler and painter of ceramics at Rookwood Pottery.
