Antique Old Nautical Oil Painting Newfoundland Landseer Dog Girl Pier Sea Signed
Incredible antique early 1900s, c1920, original nautical themed folk art oil painting. Depicts a Victorian little girl lying on the pier as a Newfoundland Landseer Dog has just rescued her from drowning in the sea. Gulls can be seen flying overhead in the cloud spattered sky. Very well done with wonderful capture of emotion and nice detail. Medium is oil on canvas mounted to old board done in a Folk Art style.
Signed by the artist J. Hamilton in the bottom right corner. Painting in Good/As Found condition. This painting has been somewhat restored by a previous owner who has left the distressed look to the piece which we think adds character to the painting. The canvas exhibits soiling and many holes that have been laid flat by the restorer.Backed with brown paper and ready to hang! Painting measures 36" x 24" and and 37 1/4" x 25 1/2" with the frame.
